Develop Your Personal Preeminence
Develop Your Personal Preeminence
The method that I have found to change myself is simplicity itself. Become an actor. Take one part of yourself at a time, and start acting as if you had already achieved that change. It will feel awkward and fake at first, but the more you practice it, including the feelings behind the actions, the more it will become natural to you. Eventually you will be acting correctly without even thinking about it and your motivation will become a part of who you are. Then you are ready to tackle the next part of yourself that you think needs improvement.
You cannot thrive through your own mediocrity or even your own excellence. Mediocrity is already a thing of the past. You’re a long way from mediocre otherwise you wouldn’t still be with me. But you may just be excellent which makes you the new mediocre. It places you at parity with all the other Excellences out there who have managed to get this far. What will take you to your personal peak is Your Personal Preeminence - that unique asset that you own that could make you invaluable to others. What is that asset? How are you leveraging it? Is it buried underneath all the other layers you’ve gathered over the years? Have you been reluctant to let it out to play? Have you kept it concealed in the name of modesty and humility? Or have you been afraid of what it could do and where it could take you? Now would be a good time to unleash it. Now would be a good time to let it out to make the impact it needs to make on the world. If not now, then when? And if not you, then who?
So what is it you want to reinvent?
Before your take a big ‘gulp’ at the prospect, let me reassure you that your reinvention project could take the form of many other guises. The project needn’t even be of the Madonna-type glamour variety.

◆Maybe you are fed up with being ignored.
◆ Maybe you are sick and tired of being the centre of attention
when all you really want is to be accepted as one of the ‘guys’.
◆ Maybe you know you need to find more time for home life but
are too scared of the repercussions on your business.
◆ Maybe you have watched your boss and thought, ‘I could do the
job better’.
◆ Maybe you wish your relationship with a partner could be as
fresh as it was when you first met, but find it too difficult to
escape the roles that you’ve grown into.
◆ Maybe you want to find some time to do your own thing – for no
other reason than having a break from the office and its politics
for a while.
◆ Maybe you’ve ended up in a situation where those you love, or
even work with, are frustrated by your anger towards them
which, in reality, is directed at yourself.
◆ Maybe you feel that organizational procedures or regulations
don’t make good bedfellows with fundamental justice.
◆ Maybe you want a better reason to get out of bed in the morning
than going to work to make your boss look good.
◆ Maybe you need a break from being the ‘perfect’ parent, worker,
lover.

Serial vs. Sequential Reinvention
A final word, if you will, on the concept of reinvention: reinvention need not be sequential in fact you can and sometimes have to juggle two or more work experiences at a time. Let me
explain.
Most of us think of reinventing ourselves as a chronologic process: First, I was “x”and then (for whatever reason) I became “y.” Certainly that’s one way of looking at it, but many people
are not x’s or y’s. They’re “slashes”: x/y…two, or even x/y/z three things at once (Alboher,2007). It’s a great way to try out a new career or work challenge when you already have a job but
want to consider changing or expanding what you do for financial or personal fulfillment can’t wrap my head around the idea of career
reinvention.
